Real questions answered by our physician-led team.
I want to book an appointment but I'm not sure how to choose between all the different facial options. Is there a consultation where someone can look at my skin and tell me which treatment would actually make the biggest difference? I don't want to spend money on the wrong thing.
Asked by Fatima H.
You've described exactly why we offer consultations as a starting point — and yes, a consultation is absolutely the right first step. Rather than asking you to choose from a menu of treatments, our team assesses your skin directly during the consultation: we look at texture, pore congestion, hydration levels, pigmentation, sensitivity, and other factors, then recommend the treatment that will make the most meaningful difference for your specific skin. We explain why in plain language — not industry jargon — so you understand what's driving our recommendation. There is no obligation to book anything during the consultation, and there is no pressure. Our goal in that first appointment is to give you an honest picture, not to fill a treatment slot. If you want a quick starting point before your consultation: our Glass Skin HydraFacial is the most universally suitable first treatment we offer. It works for virtually every skin type, has zero downtime, and produces an immediate visible improvement in skin clarity and hydration. For many patients it also helps us see how your skin responds before recommending more targeted treatments. You can reach us at +1 (905) 814-1919 or email instadermmd@gmail.com to book your consultation. We're open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm.

I've had laser hair removal at another clinic and it didn't work well — I still have significant regrowth after 6 sessions. Could it be that the wrong laser was used for my skin type? Is it worth starting a new course of treatment at your clinic?
Asked by Kevin O.
Yes — a technology or settings mismatch is the most common reason for poor laser hair removal results, and it's entirely fixable. The main causes of inadequate results after a full course are: the wrong wavelength for your skin and hair combination, energy settings that were too low (providers sometimes under-treat to minimize discomfort at the cost of efficacy), sessions spaced too far apart, or treating hairs that weren't in the active growth phase at the time. At InstaDerm MD Clinics, we assess your skin tone, hair colour, and hair coarseness before selecting the appropriate laser and calibrating settings for your specific combination. We would also review your previous treatment history — how many sessions, which device, what intervals — to understand why results fell short and design a new protocol accordingly. Starting again is absolutely worthwhile in most cases. Many of our patients who come to us after unsuccessful treatment elsewhere achieve excellent lasting reduction. We'd give you an honest assessment at consultation of what to expect and how many additional sessions are likely needed.

I'm pregnant and planning to start treatments after I give birth. I've heard that melasma from pregnancy can sometimes fade on its own but sometimes doesn't. How long should I wait after delivery before booking a consultation, and are there any treatments that are safe while breastfeeding?
Asked by Michelle L.
This is a really thoughtful question and the timing matters. Most dermatologists and aesthetic clinicians recommend waiting until you have finished breastfeeding before starting in-clinic treatments for melasma. The reason is practical: hormonal fluctuations during breastfeeding can continue to trigger melanin production, which means treatments may be less effective and pigmentation may return faster. It's also a period where we avoid certain topical actives that could theoretically be absorbed. For most patients, this means waiting until 3 to 6 months after delivery, or until breastfeeding has fully stopped. What you can do right now: strict daily broad-spectrum SPF 50+ is the single most impactful thing for melasma at any stage. UV exposure is the primary trigger that drives melasma darker, and sun protection prevents additional accumulation while your hormones settle. When you are ready to begin treatment, our Melasma Low & Glow protocol is specifically designed for this condition — combining low-fluence laser toning, chemical peels, and microneedling with brightening actives in a sequenced program. Melasma is a chronic condition that requires a multi-treatment approach, not a single fix. You're welcome to book a consultation in advance — even before you're ready to start treatment — so we can assess your melasma type, plan your protocol, and answer any questions you have.

I've been losing hair around my temples for the past two years and it's really affecting my confidence. I've tried supplements but nothing has worked. Is PRP for hair loss actually effective or is it overhyped? What kind of results do most people see?
Asked by Aisha B.
PRP for hair loss is genuinely effective, and the evidence base is one of the strongest in medical aesthetics. Multiple peer-reviewed studies support its use for androgenic alopecia — the most common form of hair loss — as well as diffuse thinning from telogen effluvium. What PRP does is concentrate the growth factors naturally found in your own blood (PDGF, VEGF, IGF, and others) and deliver them directly to the scalp, where they stimulate dormant follicles back into the active growth phase and improve blood supply to the follicle. For follicles that are miniaturizing — which is what's happening at the temples in most cases — this consistently produces measurable improvement in density, shedding reduction, and hair quality. It is not a cure for hair loss and it doesn't produce identical results for everyone. Patients with very advanced loss where follicles are completely gone do not respond. But for early to moderate hair loss with active follicles, the outcomes are real. At InstaDerm MD Clinics, we also offer Exohair (exosome therapy) and Laser Hair Restoration, which can be combined with PRP for enhanced results. We'd assess your specific hair loss pattern and history at consultation and recommend the most appropriate protocol — and be honest with you about realistic expectations. The most important thing: the sooner you start, the better the outcome. Follicles that are miniaturized can be reactivated. Follicles that are fully lost cannot.

I've been dealing with acne scars for years and honestly thought nothing could be done about them. A friend mentioned microneedling changed her skin completely. How many sessions would I realistically need before seeing a noticeable difference in my scarring?
Asked by David C.
Acne scarring is one of the conditions that responds best to microneedling, and the results genuinely can be significant — but it's a process that rewards patience. Most patients with moderate acne scarring see meaningful improvement after 3 sessions, with continued remodeling happening for up to 6 months after the final treatment as new collagen matures. Deeper or more stubborn scars — particularly ice-pick scars — may require 4 to 6 sessions. For acne scarring specifically, we often recommend our Advanced Microneedling combined with PRP (our Vampire Facial). The growth factors in PRP amplify the collagen induction response and accelerate repair in a way that microneedling alone doesn't achieve. For patients with both scarring and active post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (the dark marks), we typically sequence in a chemical peel as well. At your consultation, we'll assess your scar types — boxcar, rolling, and ice-pick scars each respond somewhat differently — and give you a realistic picture of expected improvement and timelines. The first visible change most patients notice is smoother texture, followed by gradual improvement in scar depth over the following months.

How long does a typical appointment take from start to finish? I'm trying to figure out if I can fit treatments into a lunch break or if I need to block off a half day. Does it vary a lot between treatments?
Asked by Natalie R.
Treatment times vary, and it's a great thing to plan for. Here's a quick guide to help you schedule: - Glass Skin HydraFacial: 60 minutes — popular as a lunch break treatment - Radiant Glow O2 Facial / LED Facial: 45–60 minutes - Botox or Dysport: 30–45 minutes for the treatment itself (add time for a first-visit intake) - Dermal Fillers: 45–60 minutes - Microneedling: plan for 90 minutes — the numbing cream needs 30–45 minutes to take effect before the treatment begins - Laser hair removal: 15–45 minutes depending on the area For first visits, we recommend keeping your treatment appointment separate from your consultation so neither is rushed. Once you're an established patient and we know your skin, appointments move faster. When you book, just let our team know your time constraints and we'll help you choose the right treatment and slot.

I have fairly dark skin and I'm worried about laser treatments causing more pigmentation rather than fixing it. Are your laser treatments safe for South Asian skin tones, and how do you adjust the settings for darker complexions?
Asked by Priya K.
This is exactly the right question to ask before booking any laser treatment, and we're glad you're asking it. At InstaDerm MD Clinics, we assess your Fitzpatrick skin type (the standardized scale for skin tone and UV reactivity) as a core part of every laser consultation. For South Asian and other darker skin tones, we select laser wavelengths and calibrate energy settings specifically to minimize the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — the main concern with laser on deeper complexions. For laser hair removal on darker skin, we favour longer wavelengths that bypass the melanin in the skin surface and target the follicle more selectively. For pigmentation treatments, we use a low-and-slow protocol to reduce melanin stimulation in surrounding skin. We would never proceed with any laser treatment without this assessment first. Please book a consultation and bring up your skin tone concern directly — our team will walk you through exactly which treatments are appropriate for you and which settings we would use.

I've been reading about HydraFacials and I'm really interested, but I work full time and can't afford to look red or irritated at the office. How much downtime should I actually expect, and is it okay to go back to work the same day?
Asked by Sarah M.
Great news — the Glass Skin HydraFacial has zero downtime. You may notice mild pinkness for about an hour after the extraction step, but it resolves quickly and requires nothing to hide. In fact, your skin typically looks noticeably better the moment you leave — brighter, cleaner, and more luminous — which is exactly why it's one of our most popular lunchtime treatments. You can return to work, wear makeup (after a few hours), and go about your day completely normally. There are no restrictions on sun exposure beyond the everyday SPF we always recommend. If you want to be safe, book it for a Thursday or Friday your first time so you can see how your skin responds before a busy week — though the vast majority of patients have no visible reaction at all.
